With the growing community and the desire to propagate the devotion to the Holy Child, the Cofradia del Santo Niño de Cebu conducted its virtual international convention, participated by the different chapters of the confraternity around the world, on April 30, 2022.

The event started with an introductory message from the head of the Singapore Chapter followed by a mass held at the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu presided over by the Spiritual Director of the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu – Mother Chapter and the Rector of the Basilica, Rev. Fr. Nelson G. Zerda, OSA.

To highlight the event, Rev. Fr. Andrew Batayola, OSA had an inspirational talk in relation to the theme of this year’s Fiesta, “Señor Sto. Niño: Our Source of Communion, Life for Mission.”

In 2020, Singapore was the supposed venue of the 36th National Convention and the 2nd International Convention, a first outside the Philippines, but it was postponed due to the pandemic. However, after a two-year postponement, it did not stop the Cofradia members from attending this year’s gathering.

The last time the confraternity physically gathered was in Manila in 2019. Moreover, on May 29, 2021, the first virtual convention and considered as the 36th convention was held. Rev. Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA shared about the life of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, the confraternity’s founder.

A total of 2,245 members attended the 37th convention in a blended setup with physical and virtual gatherings. Each chapter was to gather physically in their chosen venue while attending the one-day event via zoom and hosted by the Singapore Chapter.

Members may be separated by distance but are united by hearts; hearts full of hope and love for the Holy Child, Señor Santo Niño de Cebu.

Spread the love!
