Jesus calms his disciples
Gospel: Jn 6:16-21
Our Gospel account is very similar to the calming of the storm which we read elsewhere, with the difference that, this time, Jesus is not in the boat with the disciples and there is no mention of him calming down the strong wind and the rough waters.
The focus of the story seems to be not that of showing Christ as the master of the forces of nature, but that he is there to guide and protect us and see to it that we reach our destination safely. His words – “It is I; don’t be afraid” – should resound in our ears every time we encounter difficulties in life and lose our way.
God is not only our ultimate destination. He is also our way and guide throughout our journey. With faith in him, we are sure to reach eternal life.
