He Will Be With Us

Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Lk 21:12-19 The Coming Persecution”

Readings for today

The Gospel presents a rather bleak picture of the destiny that awaits those who believe in Jesus. It speaks of being persecuted, delivered to authorities, betrayed even by one’s own family, hated by everyone, etc. Indeed, the Lord never promised a bed of roses (at least not in the present world) to those who want to follow him. And yet he consoles us by saying that he will never abandon us and that, throughout all the trials and persecutions, he will be with us to guide us. In the end, he says, not a single hair of our head will perish. These are words we need to remind ourselves of as we travel in present life’s valley of tears. Let us keep our trust in God and try to make the most of whatever negative situation we find ourselves in.
