Today’s Gospel

Be on your guard: don’t immerse yourselves in a life of pleasure, drunkenness and worldly cares, lest that day catch you unaware, like a trap! For, like a snare, will that day come upon all the inhabitants of the earth. But watch at all times and pray, that you may be able to escape all that is going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

Today’s Reflection

Prayer is the best weapon  to  defeat every trouble that destroys us. When  we  are in despair, we pray. When we are in need, we pray. When we are blessed, we pray. When we feel alone, we pray. Through prayer, we experience God, strengthening our relationship with Him. However, we must keep in mind that the quality of our prayer life determines the quality of our relationship with God. Praying is about talking to God, listening to Him, enjoying His presence in our lives, and being watchful of ourselves and God. If this is our attitude toward  prayer,  it  becomes   much   easier to confront all sorts of tribulations that come our way. However, we are sometimes tempted to escape from these tribulations. This is why we resort to actions such as a life of pleasure, drunkenness, and worldly cares, which eventually distance us from God. Jesus’s words to “watch at all times and pray” should be instilled  in  our  consciousness  so that when troubles come to us, we are ready to confront them with fearlessness, knowing that we have a God who protects and sustains our lives.
