The End of Time

Readings for today

The terrifying images mentioned in our Gospel reading – earthquakes, famines, plagues, wars, etc. – have become an everyday piece of news for us. Some people would take them as indications that the end of the world is imminent. However, in a less dramatic tone, we can say that their existence is rather an invitation for us to test our level of preparedness for the Lord’s return. If he were to come today, would we be prepared to face him and give an account of how we have lived our life? It doesn’t matter if the events mentioned in the Scripture do not usher in the end of time. It would still be an advantage for us if we prepare ourselves for any eventuality. Vigilance is the name of the game. A true Christian must always be ready to face the Lord.
