Today’s Gospel

Before all these things happen, people will lay their hands on you and persecute you; you will be delivered to the synagogues and put in prison, and for my sake you will be brought before kings and governors. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. So keep this in mind: do not worry in advance about what to say, for I will give you words and wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by relatives and friends, and some of you will be put to death. But even though, because of my name, you will be hated by everyone, not a hair of your head will perish. By your patient endurance you will save your souls.

Today’s Reflection:

There are people who say the present world is no different from the past. They recognize that terrible things are still happening today. There are crimes and abuses committed against people; there are inequalities and injustices. Many people are suffering; poverty continues to be a problem. The same can be said about us, Christians.  Christians were persecuted in the past and there are still Christians who suffer for their faith today. Some of them died violently.

In the face of difficulties and threats to life, we are assured by the Lord not to be afraid. He tells us not worry for we can rely on the abiding presence of God. In the gospel, the Lord warns us of what awaits us for believing in Him; yet, He promises us His saving grace. Persecution, rejection and division may happen to us because we carry the name of Christ. People may hate us for living out His message of love; but, we are never left alone. The Lord is with us. /Vulnerasti, 2022
