Ecce Homo at 450

On this day, August 20, 2022, the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu- Philippines and the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu commemorates the 450th Anniversary of the Finding of the Image of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Ecce Homo.

To celebrate this historical event, a blended online and physical conference, attended by the Basilica’s different mandated organizations and volunteer groups, was held inside the church. Augustinian friars in Cebu and novices of the Asia Pacific Augustinian Novitiate were also present.

Rev. Fr. Ericson Borre, OSA and Rev. Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA shared insightful discussions with attendees, especially on the history and devotion to the Ecce Homo.

Following the conference was the Eucharistic Celebration at 11:30 am held at the Pilgrim Center, presided over by Rev. Fr. Jose Rene Delariarte, OSA, Provincial Treasurer and Counselor of the Province.

Rev. Fr. Jose Rene Delariarte, OSA expressed in his homily that we should be reminded about how we should relate to the suffering of Christ and prudently accept things for the good of others.

“The face [Ecce Homo] represents the whole person of Jesus. And this face continuously reminds us of the great sacrifice of the love of God.”

A brief procession of friars and attendees from the Pilgrim Center going to the altar of the Ecce Homo inside the Church capped the half-day activity with a blessing of the image.

As we celebrate 450 years of the presence of the Ecce Homo, may we feel His presence as He is always present in us.

Spread the love!
