My Kingdom is not of This World

Readings for today

To work for the gradual fulfillment and unfolding of God’s kingdom in this world is one thing; to identify it with any worldly kingdom is another. In today’s Gospel, Christ clearly states that his kingdom is not of this world. It is of the other world, an eschatological one. The most we can do at the present time is prepare for it and contribute, in any way we can, to its progressive realization. We can do this by bearing witness to the Gospel values (like those of justice, peace, love, etc.), not so much with words and pure intellectual assent, but with our concrete behavior and lifestyle. The way we live should not contradict the Gospel message. Otherwise, we might end up being excluded from it, as well as those whom we might mislead and guide along the wrong path.
