Gospel: Lk 1:5-25 “Announcement of the Birth of John“

Who would ever think that an old woman, so advanced in age, could still bear a child? But God made it possible for Elizabeth. She was barren (which was considered a disgrace for a woman in biblical times). God blessed Zechariah and Elizabeth with a son, whom they desired for so long in their married life, and so were filled with joy.
Our God is a God of surprises. If we put our trust in Him completely, He will fulfill His promise and hear our prayers. He desires that we follow His commandments and persevere in prayer. When we do, God has many beautiful things in store for us, foremost of which is the experience of an encounter with Him – to see, hear, feel, touch and taste His presence in our lives, which gives so much joy to our hearts.
