Like children – trusting, simple, humble and open

Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Jn 6:1-15

One small detail in the multiplication of loaves and fish performed by Jesus which sometimes escapes our attention is the fact that, among the thousands of men gathered on that occasion, only a boy was able to contribute food for everybody.

Children have a special role in the Gospel accounts. The Lord manifests a special fondness for them. They are presented are models to imitate for anyone who wants to enter the kingdom of God. The fact that only a boy was able to contribute to feeding the huge crowd seems to have a message to convey to us.
To collaborate with Christ in the fulfillment of his mission, we must first become like children – trusting, simple, humble and open. Great things, indeed, start with small beginnings. Let us give what little we have, and let God do the rest.
