Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Lk 3:10-18 “The Preaching of John the Baptist”
December 16, 2018 | Sunday
When people came to John the Baptist to ask him what they should do in order to be saved, he gave them different answers, taking into account their different status in life, background and occupation. The evangelist clearly points out that some of those who came to John were tax collectors, others were soldiers, while others were presumably just ordinary people. This is a very interesting detail, for it seems to tell us that while all of us are called by God to believe in Him in order to be saved, the way one lives out his or her faith depends on one’s concrete situation. In other words, while we are all called to one and the same faith in Jesus and desire the same final end, the paths to follow vary. We speak of different vocations, in this case.
