Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Mt 1:18-25 The Birth of Jesus

Readings for today

In the Old Testament, there are stories of the birth of God’s chosen ones (like Isaac, Jacob, and Samuel). The spirit of God is the cause of their human life. In the birth of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is the cause of the bearing of Mary’s son, Jesus. This suggests that the creative energy of God is responsible for Christ’s life on earth.

Jesus’ name refers to salvation from sins, oppression, exile, foreign domination, and all forms of separation from God. The Lord carried out his salvific mission through the proclamation of the kingdom of heaven and in his Paschal mystery (passion, death and resurrection). The power of Jesus’ name is upon us. When we call upon his name, the power of the word works in us and brings about our salvation or liberation from sin in all its forms.
