The Joyful Celebration

Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Jn 20:1-9 “The Empty Tomb
April 21, 2019 | Sunday

Today’s Gospel

On the first day of the week,
Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
“They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don’t know where they put him.”
So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb.
They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter
and arrived at the tomb first;
he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in.
When Simon Peter arrived after him,
he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there,
and the cloth that had covered his head,
not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place.
Then the other disciple also went in,
the one who had arrived at the tomb first,
and he saw and believed.
For they did not yet understand the Scripture
that he had to rise from the dead.

Today’s Reflection

After the lonely and dark moment of Jesus’ passion and death, we are now in joyful celebration as he is resurrected in accordance with the Holy Scripture. Let everyone sing: Jesus Christ is risen today. Alleluia. Alleluia. Gone are the weeks of mourning, of weeping. Let us welcome the season of Easter with full of joyful expectation, with smiles on our faces, and hope in our hearts. Jesus is inviting everyone that no matter how hard our life is, we have to endure everything all for the glory of God. Then, we shall surely be given new life. Our suffering, loss, injuries and pain are but all passing. They may become part of us. But we are not to let our lives be taken away by all these pains. Jesus’ resurrection is the surest sign of God’s limitless mercy and boundless love. We can still live again with new life. We may feel discouraged and humiliated or even being dead with all the pains that we are enduring, just look at the resurrected Christ – the hope of new life.
