The Radical Teachings of Jesus

Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Lk 5:17-26 The Healing of a Paralytic

Readings for today

Jesus forgives the sins of the paralyzed man and healed him. This made the Pharisees question him: a human being, acting like God? Jesus is the face of God for us Christians. When he forgives, God forgives for it is the nature of God to forgive sins. Thus, when one forgives, one imitates Jesus and imitates the forgiving God.

One of the radical teachings of Jesus to his disciples is forgiveness. When one forgives, one experiences freedom from the shackles of anger, hatred, envy and pride that eat up the soul. Likewise, when one experiences being forgiven, healing, peace and freedom are felt in the innermost self of the person. Such is what happened to the paralyzed man when Jesus forgave him. He took up his mat, he was thus healed, and left the house filled with joy, praising God.
