In celebration of the Solemnity of St. Augustine of Hippo, Spiritual Founder of the Augustinians, the faithful gathered at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu to glorify and give thanks to the Almighty God.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Most Rev. Jose S. Palma, D.D., Apostolic Administrator of Cebu, together with the Augustinian Friars of the Province of Santo Niño de Cebu–Philippines.
In his homily, Archbishop Palma encouraged everyone to live a life wholly dedicated to God, recalling the wisdom of St. Augustine: “To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek Him is the greatest adventure; to find Him is the greatest human achievement.”
St. Augustine’s journey of conversion stands as a powerful testimony that God’s love is greater than our sins and failures. His wholehearted turning to the Lord reveals the infinite mercy of a Father who never ceases to welcome His children back into His embrace.
“Imitating him in his desire to change, to reform, to embrace the love of God, is the best way we can honor this great saint,” Archbishop Palma reminded the faithful.
As we draw inspiration from the life of St. Augustine, may our hearts remain steadfast in turning to our Merciful Father. Like him, may we never tire of seeking God, never lose hope in His mercy, and never cease to grow in faith and love./Nicholas Jon Malaga with Shiela Mae Gumapon, Creative Arts Ministry (CAM)
