Today’s Gospel
When Jesus came down from the mountain, large crowds followed him.
Then a leper came forward. He knelt before him and said, “Sir, if you want to, you can make me clean.” Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I want to, be clean again.” At that very moment, the man was cleansed from his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you do not tell anyone; but go to the priest, have yourself declared clean, and offer the gift that Moses commanded as evidence for them.”
Today’s Reflection
We notice a very inspiring scene in today’s Gospel: Jesus heals the leper who prostrated before him. We all need healing and forgiveness, which only God can give. Sin makes us despicable and unpleasant, and the shame it brings often discourages us from seeking forgiveness. Yet, Jesus shows us today a truly loving and compassionate God. He reaches out to those who most need his love. He does not reject the leper because of his condition. Like the leper who humbly prostrated before Jesus, we too must have the humility to confess our sinfulness and recognize our need for healing. Healing begins with our humble acceptance of our own shortcomings. For Jesus, no one remains unloved or unwanted if we sincerely seek his love and mercy.
