Today’s Gospel
Jesus got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Without warning, a fierce storm burst upon the lake, with waves sweeping the boat. But Jesus was asleep.
The disciples woke him up and cried, “Lord save us! We are lost!” But Jesus answered, “Why are you so afraid, you of little faith?” Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and sea; and it became completely calm.
The disciples were astonished. They said, “What kind of man is he? Even the winds and the sea obey him.”
Today’s Reflection
We are often battered by the storms of life. After all, life is not a walk in the park. There are heartaches, losses, failures, and disappointments. Instead of simply letting them discourage us, let us also see where God is in the low moments, since God, more often than not, can transform these moments into encounters of grace. Through these experiences, we can have a more meaningful and deeper relationship with Jesus. As Jesus calmed the storm, He rebuked His disciples for their lack of faith. They were fearful even though Jesus had been with them for a long time. If we realize that Jesus is with us from the very beginning, fear and doubt will be dispelled.
If we believe that He is with us, nothing will ever defeat us, not even the most serious and heart-wrenching moments in life. God is with us.
