A Cancer Survivor’s Hopeful Trust in Him | StoryaNiño

Usually, one fights against all odds to win when in a battle. However, Lourdes Tubilla, at 65 years old, has already ‘surrendered’ her will to a fight she knows will test her faith. She is facing a battle with cancer and has surrendered everything to the Señor Santo Niño, a significant figure in her faith, symbolizing her complete trust and reliance on God.

Lourdes, a resident of Talisay, bravely recalls her miraculous healing journey. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney cancer, a diagnosis that was a mere step away from Stage 4.

“Hapit nako… hapit ko mag… padong na unta gyud,” her voice trembles with tears running down her face as she recounts one of the darkest phases of her life.

Lourdes struggled to accept the possible outcome of her condition. But amid her hopelessness, she found solace when she placed herself entirely to the mercy of God. “Ikaw na’y mahibaw, Ginoo,” she said.

Despite the uncertainty of her future, Lourdes fortified her prayer life, entrusting herself to the Señor Santo Niño to guide her on a journey of healing and acceptance. She took immediate action by adopting a disciplined diet, and following her doctor’s advice.

Lourdes recalled the moment of breaking her doctor’s stern warning to her children. Her doctor said that if she does not take extra precautions for her health, she might need to undergo dialysis without the assurance of improvement. The thought of becoming a burden to her two children, who already have their own families, weighed heavily on her heart.

“Gihilakan nako siya. Giingnan nako akong anak nga kung mag-dialysis nako, dili nako,” she expressed.

However, Lourdes did not let her faith waver. She continued to attend Mass regularly and offered Masses for her intentions for this year’s Fiesta Señor celebration.

Last year, her continued faith granted her a miracle. Her laboratory results, which previously painted a disheartening picture, showed hope.

“Ang paglaum naa ra sa kaugalingon. Ug kung i-surrender nimo tanan Niya, all will be fine,” she shared. She believes she was healed physically and spiritually, having learned to trust in God’s plan.

Now, on a journey to recovery, she encourages others to trust in Him, no matter how hopeless their situation may seem.

“Surrender lang gyud. Ang Ginoo, Siya ra ang mahibaw sa atong kinabuhi,” she said.

Surrender and trust became the key to Lourdes’ healing. She reminds us that even in our darkest moments, God’s light shines brightest when we let go and let Him lead./Donna Rose Egos, BMSN Media Centre student volunteer
