Today’s Gospel

Peace be with you! My peace I give to you; not as the world gives peace do I give it to you. Do not be troubled! Do not be afraid! You heard me say, ‘I am going away, but I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.

I have told you this now before it takes place, so that when it does happen you may believe. There is very little left for me to tell you, for the prince of this world is at hand, although there is nothing in me that he can claim. But see, the world must know that I love the Father, and that I do what the Father has taught me to do. Come now, let us go.

Today’s Reflection:

When Jesus was about to leave His disciples, He knew they were going to be afraid. This is why He left them with a gift—His own peace. The peace that Jesus gives is not the absence of war, problems, pain, hardships or temptations. The peace that Jesus gives is an internal kind of peace – a feeling of peace within us, an inner peace. This kind of peace can be likened to the unconditional love that a mother has for her child, a kind of love that transcends things. The kind of love that even the child will be bullied in school, he still finds comfort in his mother’s arms. No matter how the world treats him, as long as his mother loves him, that is enough. This is the perfect way to describe the kind of love that Jesus left for us – that despite the presence of struggles, worries, and problems in our lives, Jesus assures us that He is with us and He will give us comfort and continue to love us. That is our peace. /Vulnerasti, 2022
