Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Lu ke 19:45-48
November 24, 2023 | Friday
Then Jesus entered the Temple area and began to drive out the merchants. And he said to them, “God says in the Scriptures: My house shall be a house of prayer: but you have turned it into a den of robbers.”
Jesus was teaching every day in the Temple. The chief priests and teachers of the Law wanted to kill him and the elders of the Jews as well, but they were unable to do anything, for all the people were listening to him and hanging on his words.
Today’s Reflection:
In today’s gospel, Jesus drove out money changers despite the fact that they do a legitimate and important service to pilgrims from around the world who needed to have their currencies changed to buy sacrifices to be offered inside the temple. Jesus was upset at them probably because of the spot where they conducted their business that deprived Jews of their sacred space where they can pray. In so doing, He proved himself to be the Messiah who did the prophetic work of teaching the truth as a counter-witness to self-centeredness, greed, and injustice. As followers of Jesus, we are likewise called to be counter- witnesses to the world whenever it proclaims teachings contrary to the gospel truth that God instructs us to do. By doing so, we live out our baptismal calling.. / Vulnerasti, 2023
