Today’s Gospel

You have also heard that people were told in the past: Do not break your oath; an oath sworn to the Lord must be kept. But I tell you this: do not take oaths. Do not swear by the heavens, for they are God’s throne; nor by the earth, because it is his foot stool; nor by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great king. Do not even swear by your head, because you cannot make a single hair white or black. Let your ‘Yes’ mean ‘Yes’ and your ‘No’ mean ‘No.’ anything else you say comes from the evil one.

Today’s Reflection:

The message Jesus instructs us to preach is that the Kingdom of God is at hand. This implies that the present kingdom, a worldly kingdom and a kingdom that loves the world will soon be replaced by the Kingdom of God. This Kingdom is abhorred by those who love the worldly kingdom. For those who love God, this message is indeed Good News. Therefore, as announcers of the coming of God’s Kingdom, we are asked not to be attached to the things of this world and rely solely on the abundance that God promises. The things of the world distract us and delay us from our mission. Detaching ourselves from these make us true witness to the Kingdom which is at hand. /Vulnerasti, 2022
