Today’s Gospel

Jesus offered them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is smaller than all other seeds, but once it is fully grown, it is bigger than any garden plant; like a tree, the birds come and rest in its branches.” He told them another parable, “The kingdom of heaven is like the yeast that a woman took, and hid in three measures of flour until the whole mass of dough began to rise.” Jesus taught all these things to the crowds by means of parables; he did not say anything to the without using a parable. This fulfilled what was spoken by the Prophet: I will speak in parables. I will proclaim things kept secret since the beginning of the world.

Today’s Reflection:

Today’s gospel speaks of Jesus’ mysteries and works being “hidden”.In Psalm 78:2, David proclaimed: “I will open my mouth to speak in parables; I will explain what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.” The fact that Jesus speaks to the crowds in parables is an example of His work being hidden. The phrase “hid in three measures of flour, until the whole mass of dough began to rise” further shows the theme of hiddenness. St. Ignatius of Loyola believes in the presence of God in all things; thus, we need to commit a life of findings God’s presence and of unearthing the gifts He has laid out for us. Our journey to God may be filled with so much confusion and questions, but let us always remind ourselves of our purpose in finding Him..   /Vulnerasti, 2023
