Today’s Gospel

One Sabbath Jesus was going through a field of grain, and his disciples began to pick heads of grain, crushing them in their hands for food. Some of the Pharisees asked them, “Why do you do what is forbidden on the Sabbath?” Then Jesus spoke up and asked them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his men were hungry? He entered the house of God, took and ate the bread of the offering, and even gave some to his men, though only priests are allowed to eat that bread.” And Jesus added, “The Son of Man is Lord and rules over the Sabbath.”

Today’s Reflection:

It is important to observe rules and practices in every situation. However, there are times in which we just have to weigh things and discern well the difficult circumstance we may be facing. But above all, worthy of noting is the fact that in implementing and following laws and rules, we must also be discerning and have compassionate hearts. This is what Christ shows us in today’s Gospel. Perchance, he wants us to realize that the law of Love supersedes all laws as it is of God’s. And this Law of the Almighty is the reason why He sent to us His only begotten Son and sacrificed His life as a ransom for many. Through Him, we have been reconciled with the Father. /Vulnerasti, 2023.
