Today’s Gospel

Many Jews had come to Martha and Mary to offer consolation at their brother’s death.

When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him while Mary remained sitting in the house. And she said to Jesus, “If you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that what¬ever you ask from God, God will give you.” Jesus said, “Your brother will rise again.”

Martha replied, “I know that he will rise in the resurrection, at the last day.” But Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection; whoever believes in me, though he die, shall live. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Martha then answered, “Yes, Lord, I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world.”

Today’s Reflection:

The gospel speaks about the raising of Lazarus. It gave details about Lazarus’ family, then it shows Jesus’ apparent lack of concern, followed by the meeting between Jesus and Martha. Followed by Mary’s appeal, Jesus made Lazarus come out of the tomb. Why did Jesus raise Lazarus? First, Jesus raised Lazarus because they were friends. In Bethany, usually, he visited the family where he can go after a long walk to rest. Second, Jesus raised Lazarus because of love. The family had a special place in Jesus’ heart. With the death of Lazarus, it was noted that Jesus wept and the Jews who saw Jesus in tears, said “See how much he loved him.” Lastly, Jesus raised Lazarus for God’s glory. Raising Lazarus was meant for god’s glory by knowing and believing more of who Jesus is. . /Vulnerasti, 2023
