Today’s Gospel

Jesus looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury of the temple. He also saw a poor widow, who dropped in two small coins. And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them. For all of them gave an offering from their plenty; but she, out of her poverty, gave all she had to live on.”

Today’s Reflection:

God bestows His Grace on His people. We can see this in the many stories in the Bible. This is also true in the lives of the saints, heroes and popular personalities. We do see and experience this in our life. God has given us various gifts. But how do we make use of them? Sadly, because of human weakness, some would want to have more; others would refuse to share. There are also those who give back out of their excess.

The gospel tells us that what really pleases the Lord is reflected in the attitude of the poor widow. She received less; yet, she offered everything she had. She totally submitted her very self to God. This shows that if we make use of the gifts God has given us to serve Him and others with purity of intention; no matter how small the gift may be it would bring great things to us. True generosity is accompanied with a sincere heart. /Vulnerasti, 2022
