Today’s Gospel

When Jesus saw the crowd pressing around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake. A teacher of the law approached him; and said, “Master, I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”

Another disciple said, “Lord, let me go and bury my father first.” But Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and let the dead bury their dead.”

Today’s Reflection:

In today’s Gospel, two people expressed their desire to follow Jesus. The first one most probably was having issues about leaving his comforts. That is why Jesus told him that there was no comfort in being a disciple of Jesus. The second one was not yet ready to fully follow Jesus because he wanted to go back to his responsibilities to his family. Sometimes we are like the first follower. We may be excited to follow Jesus, but when our comforts are taken away, we stop being disciples. Sometimes, we are like the second follower. We want to follow Jesus but sometimes, He is not our own priority. Jesus is not saying that we should turn our backs on these things. However, He is telling us that if we want to follow him, we must make Him our priority. We must put God first. /Vulnerasti, 2022
