Gospel: Luke 6:36-38

Today’s Gospel

Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Don’t be a judge of others and you will not be judged; do not condemn and you will not be condemned; forgive and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you, and you will receive in your sack good measure, pressed down, full and running over. For the measure you give will be the measure you receive back.”

Today’s Reflection:

The first reading expresses a confession of sin which every human being ought to humbly proclaim before God for no one is without sin. After recognizing this sinfulness, the responsorial psalm follows, a cry for compassion which each of us also needs to ask from God. While these Old Testament readings highlight our sinfulness and need for God’s understanding, our Gospel reminds us that God gives consideration to our weaknesses through the same understanding that we give for others. Whatever it is that we want for others, whether we wish them well or ill, no matter how deserving or underserving they are, our wishes for them always find ways to boomerang themselves back to us, especially if it is related to salvation. We might differ in terms of merits or demerits, but we are still connected after all! /Vulnerasti, 2022
