Today’s Gospel

And as they came down the mountain, Jesus commanded them not to tell anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man be raised from the dead.

The disciples asked him, “Why do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?” Jesus answered, “So it is: first comes Elijah; and he will restore all things. But I tell you, Elijah has already come; and they did not recognize him; and they treated him as they pleased. And they will also make the Son of Man suffer.”

Then the disciples understood that Jesus was referring to John the Baptist.

Today’s Reflection:

Jesus expressed disapproval of the Jews who ignored God’s sign indicating that the Messiah has already come. They did not recognize the sign; instead they did whatever they pleased (v.12).  Every day, God gives us many signs to feel his presence. Upon waking up, God immediately gives us the reason to be grateful for giving us another day. The people around us give us the reason to appreciate him. He also gives us persons who share in our struggle and quest for a holy life. As we sleep, God makes us recognize that our day begins and ends only with Him and strengthens us to carry out our mission. All these manifest that God works in us. All we need is to discern and see God in all our experiences and help others do the same in their lives. /Vulnerasti, 2022
