Today’s Gospel

When evening came, the disciples went down to the shore. After a while, they got into a boat to make for Capernaum on the other side of the sea, for it was now dark and Jesus had not yet come to them. But the sea was getting rough because a strong wind was blowing.

They had rowed about three or four miles, when they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and he was drawing near to the boat. They were frightened, but he said to them, “It is I! Don’t be afraid!”

They wanted to take him into the boat, but immediately, the boat was at the shore to which they were going.

Today’s Reflection:

After a day of preaching, the Apostles were on the boat going to Capernaum. Jesus had not yet come to them. Later, the sea was getting rough because a strong wind was blowing. This was when they saw Jesus walking on the sea drawing near the boat. They were frightened and Jesus with his voice and with these words said to them, “It is I! Don’t be afraid!” Similar to how He comforted the disciples in the gospel, Jesus assures us continuously in our day -to-day lives. He reminds us that He is always near us all as we face life. His promise to be with us is a source of secure hope and peace. Be not afraid, he tells us. Let us reflect on the following questions: Do we believe, do we trust? /Vulnerasti, 2023
