Today’s Gospel

Be on your guard: don’t immerse yourselves in a life of pleasure, drunkenness and worldly cares, lest that day catches you unaware, like a trap! For, like a snare, will that day come upon all the inhabitants of the earth. But watch at all times and pray, that you may be able to escape all that is going to happen, and stand before the Son of Man.”

Today’s Reflection:

“Today’s gospel focuses on the following words of the Lord: “…don’t immerse yourselves in a life of pleasure, drunkenness, and worldly cares.” The concerns of this world can easily distract us from our Christian vocation. A life of pleasure offers us an easy way out of our problems and the harsh reality of this world. But it doesn’t offer us anything other than fleeting, momentary happiness. We can only find our true end and real happiness in God. Both the psalmist and Saint Augustine have advised us about this a long time ago through these words: “Truly my soul finds rest in God;my salvation comes from him (Psalm 62). May the passing pleasures that this world offers not divert our focus and attention on God’s action of grace in our lives.
