Today’s Gospel

Be on your guard: don’t immerse yourselves in a life of pleasure, drunkenness and worldly cares, lest that day catch you unaware, like a trap! For, like a snare, will that day come upon all the inhabitants of the earth. But watch at all times and pray, that you may be able to escape all that is going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man.

Today’s Reflection:

It is not a secret that there are some people who doubt the mercy of God. For them, they need to witness it concretely; they want to experience it themselves. And until they are able to experience it, they do not anticipate nor hope for a glorious life that will happen only because of God’s forgiving power. Some of these people even believe in the statement: “eat, drink, and be merry today, for tomorrow you may die. Why wait for tomorrow for it may not come. Let tomorrow take care of itself”. It is a belief that the meaning and purpose of life ends here. So, “they immerse themselves in a life of pleasure, drunkenness and worldly cares”.

Today ends the Liturgical Year of the Church and what follows next is the anticipation of the coming of the Lord. For people who have faith in the Lord, our life is a preparation for the fulfillment of His promise. We go beyond worldly cares and look forward to His coming in glory. /Vulnerasti, 2022
