Today’s Gospel

The disciples said to him, “Now you are speaking plainly and not in veiled language! Now we see that you know all things, even before we question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God.”

Jesus answered them, “You say that you believe? The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.

I have told you all this, so that in me you may have peace. You will have trouble in the world; but, courage! I have overcome the world.”

Today’s Reflection:

Christ has now gone up into heaven to enter into full and final glory at “the right hand of the Father.” Ascension affirms the fact Jesus is indeed the Son of God and He shares in the glory, power and authority of God the Father. Through this, He also shows that He is the Messiah that they were waiting for. Before He ascended to heaven, He told his apostles that they were “His witnesses.” In Greek, “martus”, which translates as a witness, is not only someone who sees but also someone who testifies or gives  testimony on what he saw. This is our call as Christians. We should not only see or experience the life of Christ in the Eucharist or in the Church, but we have to testify about it. We have to proclaim Christ and much more—we must show it in our own actions. /Vulnerasti, 2022
