Today’s Gospel

When Jesus had come in sight of the city, he wept over it, and said, “If only today you knew the ways of peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. Yet days will come upon you, when
your enemies will surround you with barricades, and shut you in, and press on you from every side. And they will dash you to the ground and your children with you, and not leave a stone upon a stone within you, for you did not recognize the time and the visitation of your God.”

Today’s Reflection:

God is love. His love can never force itself upon the beloved. It can only propose and waits to be reciprocated back. The same is true with Jesus in today’s gospel regarding the city of Jerusalem. If only they had known the presence of the Messiah in their midst! They could have been filled with the greatness of God’s love.

Maybe we can empathize with Jesus and also express our sighs of desperation for the seeming lack of good results of our efforts to share God with others and for the failures of others to see God. May we always remember that true love knows no limits and counts no failures but continues to pour out until there is nothing left for the self. We look at the cross of Jesus and we see the actual picture of true love, a love that gives all things and endures all things. / Vulnerasti, 2023
