Today’s Gospel

You have heard, that it was said: Love your neighbor and do not do good to your enemy. But this I tell you: love your enemies; and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in Heaven. For he makes his sun rise on both the wicked and the good; and he gives rain to both the just and the unjust. If you love those who love you, what is special about that? Do not even tax collectors do as much? And if you are friendly only to your friends, what is so exceptional about that? Do not even the pagans do as much? As for you, be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Today’s Reflection:

Jesus calls us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. When Jesus asks us to love our enemies, it means we should desire for their good and their well-being. He demands us to have a positive attitude towards them and not to be hostile towards them, not to wish them bad and not to think of revenge. How do we do this? We are asked to reach out to them and desire their well-being. Pray for them that they may be enlightened and change.  Much more, we must also pray for ourselves so that we will be more patient and more understanding to our enemies. Remember what Augustine said, “Hate the sin and not the sinner.” /Vulnerasti, 2022
