Today’s Gospel

And Jesus continued, “What is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to? Imagine a person who has taken a mustard seed, and planted it in his garden. The seed has grown, and become like a small tree, so that the birds of the air shelter in its branches.” And Jesus said again, “What is the kingdom of God like? Imagine a woman who has taken yeast, and hidden it in three measures of flour, until it is all leavened.”

Today’s Reflection:

The kingdom of God is compared to a mustard seed and yeast. The mustard seed, the smallest seed of all, becomes a tree big enough to sustain life around it once it has grown fully. On the other hand, a small amount of yeast leavens a meager amount of flour making it become bread that can sustain man’s life and health. Both parables have one thing in common: they begin as something small, but they end up much bigger than what is expected of them. The little things that we do every day will make us great in the sight of God as long they are exercised in the spirit of genuine piety. People become saints not because of the extraordinary things they did in their lifetime, but because of their simple gestures that touched the heart of humanity. /Vulnerasti, 2022
