Today’s Gospel

Then his mother and his relatives came to him, but they could not get to him because of the crowd. Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside and wish to meet you.” Then Jesus answered, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”

Today’s Reflection:

Christ’s answer to those who informed Him that His mother and relatives were in search of Him gives us a deeper understanding of relationships. In this world, we usually view relatedness from the perspective of consanguinity or affinity. Nevertheless, Christ transcends this. He gives us a spiritual understanding of how and what it is to be related to one another, that there exists a spiritual tie in all of us for we all have one Heavenly Father, and we are His adopted children in Christ Jesus. This is one of the great reasons why we are all called to care not only for those closely related to us but for all of humanity and other created beings. After all, it is in God that we are bonded together. It is in Him that “we are”. /Vulnerasti, 2023.
