Today’s Gospel

When evening came, the disciples went down to the shore. After a while, they got into a boat to make for Capernaum on the other side of the sea, for it was now dark and Jesus had not yet come to them. But the sea was getting rough because a strong wind was blowing.

They had rowed about three or four miles, when they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and he was drawing near to the boat. They were frightened, but he said to them, “It is I! Don’t be afraid!” They wanted to take him into the boat, but immediately, the boat was at the shore to which they were going.

 Today’s Reflection

What makes us afraid? As we celebrate the Easter season, we are reminded not to be afraid but to rejoice, for our Lord Jesus Christ is risen. Still, life is not always filled with joy. There will be moments when we face storms. Just as the disciples were caught in rough waters, we too can feel overwhelmed by life’s struggles. In their fear, Jesus appeared and said, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” And with Him, they safely reached the shore. In the same way, no matter the storms we face, we can trust that Jesus is near, walking toward us even in the dark. Whenever fear takes hold, let us call on His name and listen for His voice. He will come to us and gently remind us, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
