Gospel: Matthew 7: 1-5

Today’s Gospel
Do not judge; and you will not be judged. In the same way you judge others, you will be judged; and the measure you use for others will be used for you. Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, and not see the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Come, let me take the speck from your eye,’ as long as that plank is in your own? Hypocrite, remove the plank out of your own eye; then, you will see clearly, to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Today’s Reflection
We all desire to be judged favorably by God. In return, God also calls us to judge others with kindness and compassion. We must refrain from being overly vigilant in finding faults in others without first examining our own lives. At times, we assume the moral high ground and, as a result, judge others harshly and condemn them hastily. Jesus teaches us to reflect on our own actions and misdeeds first. This helps us recognize that, like everyone else, we too are in need of God’s forgiveness and love. May our relationship with God enable us to see others with compassion, remembering that even those we find difficult to love are deeply loved by God.
