Today’s Gospel

Mary then set out for a town in the hill country of Judah. She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and, giving a loud cry, said, “You are most blessed among women; and blessed is the fruit of your womb! How is it, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy. Blessed are you, who believed that the Lord’s word would come true!”

Today’s Reflection:

“Blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her by the Lord” (v. 45). These words of Elizabeth serve as a summary of the Biblical concept of faith. While the world wants us to believe that all can be proven by external senses and scientific instruments, the faithful followers of God must believe in the mystery and respond to it by submitting themselves to God’s will and purpose, which we can discover through constant discernment of our actions and lifestyle. A Christian believer, therefore, reverberates with the delight and peace of God that cause others to leap for joy (v. 22). Does our presence bring joy and peace to other people? How will we be able to manifest the joy of serving Christ present in our neighbors, especially in the poor? /Vulnerasti, 2022
