Gospel: Mt 5:17-19

Today’s Gospel

Do not think that I have come to annul the Law and the Prophets. I have not come to annul them but to fulfill them. I tell you this: as long as heaven and earth last, not the smallest letter or dot in the Law will change until all is fulfilled.

So then, whoever breaks the least important of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be the least in the kingdom of heaven. On the other hand, whoever obeys them, and teaches others to do the same, will be great in the kingdom of heaven.

Today’s Reflection:

Many Christians see Jesus as a soft and kind-hearted God who takes the role of appeasing an angry and disappointed God the Father. Others perceive Jesus as the Word who provides us with legitimate but more lenient means to please the Father. However, these notions manifest superficial and immature conceptions of God’s persons, if not heretical. There’s no disparity or difference between the teachings of the Father and the Word’s. The revelations of God in the Old Testament simply receive its fullness in Jesus Christ. This means that the best way (where there is no other better way) to understand the laws of God is through the way Jesus fulfills them in His words and actions. This way, the Only Begotten Son teaches us concretely how and what it means to be genuine children of God by adoption. /Vulnerasti, 2022
