Tree Planting at Dumanjug

As the COVID-19 restrictions eased in some parts of the country and as more people were allowed to go out and travel, members of the different organizations of the Basilica showed support in the socio-developmental plan of the Sto. Niño de Cebu Augustinian Social Development Foundation, Inc. (SNAF) under the Province of Sto. Niño de Cebu-Philippines in Kang-Actol, Dumanjug, Cebu.

Kang-actol is the location of the 49-hectare Monte Maravilla Climate Smart Village and is 78 kilometers away from Cebu City. One of the projects initiated by SNAF is the planting of 9,000 trees for the rehabilitation of the area.

The first organization to conduct a tree planting activity entitled “Grow a Vocation Tree” is the BMSN’s Augustinian Vocation Promoters (AVP) in November 2020. The group committed to plant 1,000 trees.

Other organizations that supported SNAF’s cause are: the OSA CARES, the support arm of the different socio-pastoral activities of the Basilica, the BMSN’s Creative Arts Ministry, the youth ministry of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu and the support group of the BMSN Media Centre, and the members of the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu – Mother Chapter.

At present, a total of 2, 500 trees are already planted in the Climate Smart Village.
