Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu will take part in the Pilgrimage tours in Cebu, hosted by the DOT Region 7, as one of the pilgrim sites as announced during the media launching held today, April 9, 2022 held at Quest Hotel, Cebu City.
The pilgrimage tours is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Tourism Region 7, the Archdiocese of Cebu and the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to highlight the 500 years of the introduction of Christianity in the country, wherein Cebu as its cradle.
The pilgrimage consists of two sets of tours. The first part is the Southern Cebu Jubilee Churches namely: Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu, St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Carcar, St. Michael the Archangel of Argao, San Guillermo Church of Dalaguete, Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio of Boljoon, St. Gregory the Great Parish Church of Ginatilan and Sta. Ana Shrine of Barili.
On the other hand, the second part of the tour is composed of the Marian churches in Metro Cebu, namely: Nuestra Señora de Regla, Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church, Our Mother of Perpetual Help and Asilo de la Milagrosa.
Rev. Fr. Brian Brigoli, Chair of the Cebu Archdiocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church, said in his speech that this pilgrimage tour is a way of reconnecting with our faith.
Meanwhile, Rev. Fr. Genesis P. Labana, OSA, BMSN Media Director, represented the Basilica and presented the preparations of the Basilica in welcome its guests not only as tourists but as pilgrims. A newly constructed Information Area at the religious store will soon be utilized for the visitors. Moreover, the Basilica is also on its planning stage of transferring the museum inside the Basilica church from its former location at the Pilgrim Center.
