They are Marcelino Y. Alegarbes, Dory G. Choa, Rodolfo Kintanar, and Maylen A. Licatan.
Aside from them, a special recognition was given to Marcelo Babano who is part of the affiliation but passed away prior to being confirmed and awarded by Prior General Alejandro Moral Anton in Rome. The award was given to his wife on his behalf.
The affiliation honors the laity who merit special recognition because of their distinguished cooperation for the good of the Order of Saint Augustine which has the faculty of affiliating to itself the faithful.
The event was held at the Sala Mayor of the Basilica convent. It started with a Eucharistic celebration presided by the Prior and Rector, Rev. Fr. Pacifico C. Nohara, OSA, and was followed by the giving of certificates and medals to the newly confirmed affiliates.
The friars of the BMSN community and some family members were also present in the event.
Rodulfo O. Kintanar, one of the awardees, shared how he felt upon receiving the award, “Lipay ta oyy kay di tanan blessed nga maka dawat [aning] award.” (I’m happy because not everyone is blessed to receive this award.)
Kintanar served the Basilica for twenty-five years as a member of the Cofradia del Sto. Niño de Cebu and the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
As part of the Augustinian community, may we always remember that service is not about what we can get in return, but it is about what we can give for the common good as the lay affiliates have shown over the years. /Joan Odessa Mae Igno, CNU Broadcast Communication Intern
