Free Cataract and Pterygium Surgery Held in Basilica

In order to show their love and devotion in action, the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Nino de Cebu has conducted free cataract and pterygium surgeries with the sponsorship of Rotary Club of Metro Cebu, PLDT Employees Credit Cooperative Inc. (PECCI), the Raise me up Organization and volunteers of the Basilica Medical Clinic that started last January 27 and will end on February 1, 2020.

Lea Gamutan, head nurse of the Basilica Medical Clinic, said that this is the second year that the Basilica held a free surgery on cataracts and pterygium for the public.

Over 800 people came to the Basilica last Sunday for the registration and was followed with a check-up on the following day to determine if they are medically qualified to undergo surgery.

As of January 30, there are 300 people scheduled for cataract surgery, while 50 people were already operated for pterygium last Tuesday.

Raise Me Up Organization provided for the doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other volunteers to make the medical mission possible. Raise Me Up organization is a group of medical practitioners, who travels and lends a hand to people in need of health care.

Moreover, aside from this activity, the Basilica Medical Clinic volunteers will also conduct a Free Tuli (Circumcision) in April.

Gamutan further said that this is their way to show their love and devotion to Sto. Nino, the child Jesus.

A mass for the beneficiaries and volunteers will also be held on February 1, 2020, Saturday, 10:00 am as a thanksgiving for the success of the 6-day activity. Guada Mae Rebuta – USJ-R Communication Intern.
