pilgrim image of Santo Niño

On the occasion of the 452nd anniversary of the rediscovery of the Santo Niño de Cebu on April 28, the pilgrim image of the Holy Child has been brought to Barangay Mayao, Oas, Albay in Bicol.

Until, April 23, processions will be held between the chapel of Mayao and the Parish of St. Michael the Archangel.
Meanwhile, new officers and members of the Confradia del Santo Niño de Cebu-Mayao Chapter were inducted on April 22. The Santo Niño de Cebu is considered the oldest Catholic icon in the Philippines at more than 450 years old. The image was recovered on April 28, 1565, in Cebu by the Legazpi expedition and has since been under the care of the Augustinians.

In honor of and devotion to the Child Jesus, the Holy See has canonically crowned the image. Cebu’s Santo Niño church, where it is housed, has been elevated to the status of minor basilica.
