Today’s Reflection
Gospel: Lk 13:1-9 “A Call to Repentance
March 24, 2019 | Sunday

Today’s Gospel

Some people told Jesus about the Galileans
whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way
they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!
Or those eighteen people who were killed
when the tower at Siloam fell on them—
do you think they were more guilty
than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?
By no means!
But I tell you, if you do not repent,
you will all perish as they did!”

And he told them this parable:
“There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard,
and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,
he said to the gardener,
‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree
but have found none.
So cut it down.
Why should it exhaust the soil?’
He said to him in reply,
‘Sir, leave it for this year also,
and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;
it may bear fruit in the future.
If not you can cut it down.'”

Today’s Reflection

In this 3rd Sunday of Lent, Jesus told us about the barren fig tree and his call to be rooted again in the source of life that we may obtain fruit before the Day of Judgment will come. Jesus is truly a man of compassion and always gives us hope for us to repent and change our ways. He revealed himself and took the form of the slave for us to be saved from all our sins and wickedness. Despite all the pains that we give to him, He is still embracing us not to be cut and to grow for he knows our limitations and weaknesses. Nevertheless, we are challenged to amend our ways, learn to forgive and surrender our sufferings to God for us to obtain the spiritual healing that we truly need. It will be the commencement of a renewed life and obtaining not only multitude of fruits but also a good fruit that will nourish not only us but others as well. We are called to repent and believe in the Gospel.
