Today’s Gospel

There was also a prophetess named Anna, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher After leaving her father’s home, she had been seven years with her husband; and since then, she had been continually about the temple, serving God, as a widow, night and day, in fasting and prayer. She was now eighty-four. Coming up at that time, she gave praise to God, and spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem. When the parents had fulfilled all that was required by the law of the Lord, they returned to their town,Nazareth in Galilee. There, the child grew in stature and strength, and was filled with wisdom: the grace of God was upon him.

Today’s Reflection:.

God is faithful. He is true to His words and promises. Both Anna the prophetess and old Simeon were witnesses to God’s fidelity to His promises to Israel. Thus, they too
remained faithful to God even during their old age. We see this in Anna’s persistence in prayer, day and night, at the temple and in Simeon’s patience in waiting for the promised Messiah. The Messiah came at the right time in history, in the fullness of time, in God’s perfect time!

When life’s ups and downs hit us hard, let us, like Anna and Simeon, hold on to God’s promise of salvation by being persistent in prayer. May our actions show that we too are faithful to Him. / Vulnerasti, 2023
