Today’s Gospel

Mary then set out for a town in the hill country of Judah. She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and, giving a loud cry, said, “You are most blessed among women; and blessed is the fruit of your womb! How is it, that the mother of my Lord comes to me? The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy. Blessed are you, who believed that the Lord’s word would come true!” And Mary said, “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit exults in God, my savior!

Today’s Reflection:

When the Blessed Virgin Mary (later called Our Lady of Guadalupe) appeared to St. Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531, she promised that as soon as a church would be built in her honor, she would demonstrate and give to all her love, compassion, help and protection. She revealed herself to him as the merciful Mother of all who live united in that land and of all mankind, of all those who love her, of those who cry to her, of those who seek her and of those who have confidence in her. When we turn to Mary as the Mother of God and of us all, we can be confident that all our prayers, through her intercession, will be heard by Jesus her son. Mary serves as our inspiration to be always ready to say our “Yes” to God. /Vulnerasti, 2022
