Today’s Gospel

Do not store up treasures for yourself here, on earth, where moth and rust destroy it; and where thieves can steal it. Store up treasures for yourself with God, where no moth or rust can destroy it, nor thief come and steal it.

For where your treasure is, there, also, will your heart be.

The lamp of the body is the eye; if your eyes are sound, your whole body will be full of light. If your eyes are diseased, your whole body will be full of darkness. If, then, the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Today’s Reflection:

Many people have the misconception that they need to bring lots of things to enjoy a certain destination or journey. These people usually end up carrying or paying for excess baggage that turns out to be additional weights that they do not actually need. Our Gospel today also reminds us that we do not need to bring any baggage to reach our “ultimate” destination – heaven. Everything that we carried, accumulated, and steadfastly gripped throughout our lifetime shall be left behind after death. The only load that we can carry with us are the loads stored inside our hearts, which also serve as our tickets toward our final destinations. Now the crucial question here is, what kind of ticket are you carrying in your heart? Is it a ticket towards the light, or towards darkness? /Vulnerasti, 2023
