Today’s Gospel

As Jesus moved on from there, two blind men followed him, shouting, “Son of David, help us!” When he was about to enter the house, the blind men caught up with him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do what you want?” They answered, “Yes, sir!”

Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “As you have believed, so let it be.” And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus gave them a stern warning, “Be careful that no one knows about this.” But as soon as they went away, they spread the news about him through the whole are land.

Today’s Reflection:

The two unnamed blind men were able to regain their sights because of their faith in Jesus (vv. 28-29). But out of joy, they forgot their promise to Jesus not to tell anyone about the wonder they had experienced. Instead of keeping it to themselves, they spread the news of it to all (v. 31). Who would ever be silent when one experienced such an extraordinary phenomenon? Who would not be amazed by such a miracle that might have been their prayers ever since? It is in our human nature to be joyful when our wishes are granted. We cannot just be silent about it; we want to share the joy with others. Or perhaps, those who know these two blind men asked how they were able to regain their sights. Of course, they had to tell them what happened. It seems possible that Jesus instructed the two blind men not to tell anyone about the miraculous act of opening their eyes because the time that he was to be exalted as the Messiah had not come yet. /Vulnerasti, 2022
